Composed by William Himes. The Championship Series. Score. C. Alan Publications #28671. Published by C. Alan Publications (CN.28671).
Intrepid Overture conveys a spirit of fearlessness, adventure, bravado, and courage. The energetic opening sets the mood for a bold, aggressive principal theme. This is followed by a series of cadenzas (trombone, horn and bass), transitioning to an expressive middle section which features solo cornet and flugelhorn. In the final section the music returns to themes from the spirited opening, with the lyrical middle theme eventually returning to add to the festivities as the music comes to a fiery conclusion.
