This imaginative setting of Jingle Bells takes listeners on a Christmas journey around the world by presenting the song in the musical styles of several countries -- Mexico, Japan, Austria, Scotland and the good ol' U.S.A. Using the optional narration adds to the overall appeal, and the optional percussion instruments (jingle bells, castanets, suspended cymbal, maracas, tambourine, snare drum, bass drum) greatly enhance the nationalistic flavor of each segment. Student and Audience Pleaser
International Jingle Bells is one of my favorite string orchestra pieces. We use it for our middle school combined orchestra about every three years. Our group (24 students) ranges from beginners to beginning high school level players, and this piece is mostly playable by beginners, yet not boring for the more advanced players. Various styles, tempos, and meters offer a great learning experience. The students and the audience both love it. The percussion parts add a lot, even if we just use sleigh bells and some other basics (hand held) without drums. The piece is also effective with just a quick introduction or with the narration. We have done both. We had to buy it again this year because the old parts are wearing out.
