Pietro Mascagni (Livorno 1863 - Rome 1945) werd met één slag wereldberoemd in 1889 met zijn eerste opera 'Cavalleria Rus-ticana'. Van zijn latere opera's kenden alleen 'L'Amico Fritz' en 'Iris' nog enig succes. Diverse aria's en intermezzi bleven echter op het concertrepertoire; dit was ook het geval met 'Il Sogno' (de droom) waarvan Wil van der Beek deze geslaagde bewerking voor harmonieorkest maakte.

Pietro Mascagni (Livorno 1863 - Rome 1945) got famous overnight when his first opera 'Cavalleria Rusticana' was premiered in 1890. Of his later operas only 'L'Amico Fritz' and 'Iris' got some success. However several arias and intermezzi are still on the traditional concert repertoire. This is also the case for this intermezzo 'Il Sogno'(The Dream) brilliantly arranged for symphonic band by Wil van der Beek.

Parmi ses autres opéras, seul 'L'Amico Fritz' et 'Iris' connurent encore un peu de succès. Plusieurs airs et surtout quelques intermèdes se sont maintenus au répertoire de concert; c'est le cas pour l'intermède 'Il Sogno' (le Rêve) dont Wil van Beek a fait cet arrangement fort réussi pour orchestre d'harmonie.

Das Intermezzo 'Il Sogno' (Der Traum), von dem Wil van Beek dieses schönes Arrangement für Blasorchester gemacht hat, ist ein schönes Vorbild.
