SATB choir (a cappella)

SKU: LO.10-3918L

Composed by Craig Courtney. Choral. With windchimes, oboe. Sacred Anthem, Advent, Christmas, Epiphany. Octavo. Lorenz Publishing Company #10/3918L. Published by Lorenz Publishing Company (LO.10-3918L).

ISBN 9781429114288.

An exquisite little masterpiece by Craig Courtney and Pam Martin. Ponder in the silence the wonders of those who waited for Christ’s coming, of the shepherds who worshiped at the manger, and of the wise men who watched the stars for a signal of His birth. Wind chimes and oboe obbligato enhance the mystery in this “a cappella” setting, setting the perfect mood for Advent and Christmas Eve worship.

Haunting
A stunning and haunting piece... makes the listener think. Flute can sub. in for oboe. We are using it for choir to sing while a modern dance/movement nativity takes place. Memorable!!

What a lovely anthem! Creates a drama, and poses questions on the Christmas story, which is often taken for granted. I used a clarinet solo for accompaniment, as I had no wind chimes. Choir found it difficult, until augmented, but apart from a bit of dubious counting, the anthem went down well with the congregation.

This gem of an anthem is perfect for a Christmas Eve service. I used it in 2010 and it set a mystical feeling for the whole evening. I strongly advise using the windchimes as they add to the genre. A wonderful addition to your Christmas. Craig Courtney has done it again!
