In the Middle of the Night (...after half a bottle of whiskey) was written in 2025 for the remarkable classical guitarist Zoran Dukic, following an evening that involved long conversations, laughter, music, and, indeed, approximately half a bottle of whiskey. The piece embraces that atmosphere openly. It does not attempt to hide behind abstraction or excessive seriousness; instead, it celebrates spontaneity, virtuosity, friendship, and the unpredictable logic of late-night inspiration.
Written for solo guitar, the work unfolds as a compact musical journey lasting just over five minutes. Fast passages collide with lyrical episodes, rhythmic swagger suddenly gives way to tenderness, and moments of theatrical humor emerge without warning. The music constantly shifts direction, keeping both performer and audience slightly off balance—in the best possible way.
