Dykes was a 19th Century English organist and hymnist. The text of this penitencial hymn was based on Luke:22 31-32. Section A exposits the hymn. Section B is preceeded by a modulation to a new key with the help of an Italian augmented sixth chord. Then, a descant by yours truly is added.
