Composed by Edward Greig. Arranged by P. R. Frederick. This edition: pdf. Classical, Romantic Period. Individual part. 1 pages. P. R. Frederick #1339882. Published by P. R. Frederick (A0.1779876).

Duke Ellington’s arrangement of “In the Hall of the Mountain King” is a jazz adaptation of the famous movement from Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, recorded by Ellington and his orchestra in 1960 for the Columbia album “Three Suites” (also released as “Swinging Suites by Edward E. & Edward G.”

Ellington and Strayhorn’s Peer Gynt Suite was initially controversial; the Grieg Foundation in Norway objected to the jazz adaptation and banned it from public distribution in Scandinavia for nearly a decade.

However this double bass solo is in the original traditional style of Edvard Greig’s Peer Gynt Suite and is easily playable.
