This arrangement of the classic Christina Rossetti poem uses the Gustav Holst melody but in a completely new setting for solo voice (alto: A3 - C5, or baritone: A2 - C4) and piano. The harmonies are modern with jazz influences; the accompaniment style is Romantic. The arrangement complements the story told in the lyrics, emphasizing the starkness of the season in the opening verse, the mystery and glory of Christ's birth in the middle verses, and a simple offering in the final verse.
