Images by John O'Neill String Orchestra - Sheet Music

By John O'Neill

For String OrchestraBy John O'NeillComposer's Notes:The two movements of Images owe their existence to photographs taken during a camping trip to Death Valley in 2005. Shortly after leaving home, we encountered a beautiful twilight panorama; the winter moon competing with the setting sun. spreading elongated shadows across the snowy landscape. In Winter Shadows, I attempted to capture the crisp, stunning beauty of that moment. For most people, a mere mention of the desert conjures up images of an inhospitable, hostile landscape with miles of emptiness and searing heat. However, those who overcome their apprehensions will be richly rewarded; the foreboding desert sands periodically explode into acres of spring wildflowers framed by an awesome palette of shimmering colors, radiating from the rocky slopes above. Desert Kaleidoscope is my musical interpretation of this spectacular contrast.
