Il Castello Maledetto di un Pazzo (Italian: The Cursed Castle of a Madman) is ominous yet highly energetic orchestra composition made to emulate drama of various Romantic era opera overtures, yet in a smaller and denser package. Containing handful of themes with melodic lines that would be, in theory, later used at a later part of a larger work, the piece utilizes various sixteenth note runs to convey sense of hurry and torment, which color the fictional setting and its would-be characters.
This work represents the composer's deeper dive into orchestral music. Being a first time to compose for a traditional symphony orchestra, the composer has boldly applied string colors to wind textures to shape this piece to its current form.
