« Ich weiß, es wird einmal ein Wunder geschehen » (Je sais qu'un jour un miracle se produira) est bien plus qu'une simple chanson : c'est un monument de la culture allemande, chargé d'une histoire complexe et d'un symbolisme puissant. La chanson est indissociable de Zarah Leander, une actrice et chanteuse suédoise qui fut la plus grande star du cinéma du Troisième Reich. Sa voix de contralto, profonde et presque masculine, donne au morceau une dimension dramatique et solennelle qui a marqué les esprits. Sortie en 1942, la chanson est extraite du film Die große Liebe (Le Grand Amour). Bien que créée dans un cadre de propagande, la chanson possède une qualité universelle. Pour beaucoup de gens souffrant de la guerre, elle représentait simplement un espoir de paix et de jours meilleurs. Après la guerre, la chanson a survécu à son contexte politique pour devenir un standard de la musique populaire allemande. Elle a été reprise par de nombreux artistes, de Nina Hagen (dans un style punk/rock iconoclaste) à des interprètes de variété moderne.
