I Shall See God was composed in honor of Mabel Claire Levingston, one of the longest serving members of the Christ Episcopal Church Choir in San Antonio, Texas. This composition was premiered at her burial service on May 26, 2017. The sacred text is from The Burial of the Dead service found in the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer. These words, derived from John 11 and Job 19, are normally sung or said at the beginning of the service as the body is brought into the church, or during the entrance of the clergy ministers. The words are a comfort for those who mourn the loss of their loved ones, and also serves as a reminder that even though we die, we shall have life.
