Written in collaboration with his longtime lyricist, Bernie Taupin, the song has become not only a pop mega hit, but also an anthem for resilience and self-belief.
This skillful arrangement from Matt Shaw takes all the original essence of the iconic 1983 recording, and transports it brilliantly into the instrumental world of the brass band. Scored for British-style brass band, with timpani, kit, tambourine, glockenspeil and vibraphone, as well as an optional electric bass part to bring something a little different should you wish. The main melody is spread throughout the band, with features for the horns, baritones and euphoniums, and trombone section. The original guitar solo has been transcribed for solo trombone, with additions from solo baritone, flugel and soprano, before the full band take us to a final chorus.
A classy and highly enjoyable arrangement for both performers and audience, which will be a welcome addition to any concert working especially well as an opening item or an encore. Arrangement by Matt Shaw, from Nova Vocem Music.
