“I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover” is a 1927 popular song which became a hit soon after release and is often remembered as a cheerful, old-time novelty tune with a very catchy chorus. It was recorded by several artists in 1927, and it saw a major revival in 1948, when Art Mooney’s version reached No. 1 for three weeks. It later turned up in cartoons, parade traditions, and even as a chant for the Philadelphia Union supporters’ group, the Sons of Ben.
The version most people know is a shortened one; the original sheet music included additional verses that are usually omitted now. The song’s simple, upbeat melody and playful lyrics are a big part of why it stuck around.
