The Right Time, the Right Place
Some types of music do not provide adequate material to inspire a quality choral arrangement. This song by Lyle Lovett (text and tune), arranged by Jim Lucas, surpasses the basic standards and provides an enjoyable musical event for SATB choir singers and audiences. It contains harmonic and rhythmic elements that can be good opportunities for teaching as well as some repeated figures that have just enough slight variation to keep the singers extra-focused and alert.
The piano part requires a moderate level of skill and seems to be a good complement to the vocal parts. Note that the cover says "Going to..." and inside says "Goin' to... ", which prevented me from finding it when I first looked on the website; it has been corrected now. My high school choir really enjoyed singing this piece! |
