This has been one of the most useful purchases that I have made in a long time - and I own a LOT of piano music. Arrangements are lovely without being too difficult. It is nice to see a good mixture of Catholic and Protestant hymns.

Beautiful, Practical, useful

Beautiful collection of hymn arrangements, they are very practical to either use as lighter pieces of music, which can coexist with formal organ music in the same service. Nice use of harmony and texture.

Great for funerals

I got this book, glanced at it and thought it was good. 2 days later I was called to play for a funeral. I took this book and sight-read through many pieces for the service. It was perfect (for me)! I am so glad I purchased this book. The pieces will lend themselves to quiet reflection time during any service.

I Have Heard you calling in the Night

A good selection of pieces suitable for a time of reflection during a church or memorial service. It is spiral bound which makes for easier playing. It would have been good to have seen a list of the pieces in the book before I bought it, as I have found several repeated in The Essential Collection, also a Hope publishing compilation. When there is a book of music I feel all the pieces should be listed clearly to avoid the above situation.

Simply Beautiful!

Although the title of this book suggests that it is for memorial services, the songs can be used for many occasions, especially when quiet reflection is desired. One thing that I love about this book is that for many of the arrangements, the authors let the simple beauty of the song shine through; adding to it, but not in such a way that it is full of frills and difficult passages that can distract from the beauty of the song, but rather the is opportunity to showcase the emotion that only a pianist who has the gift of converting those feelings to those listening. I highly recommend to add this book to your repertoire. The number of pieces that you get by well-known composers for a reasonable price; the small number of pieces that are ones that are not ones you'd use often; and the songs that are repeats of ones you already own, are unique enough to be usable. The pieces are beautiful, but they won't take weeks to learn, even though many sound like it. :)

The arrangements were lovely and happily different with the uniqueness of several arrangers in one book. I have thoroughly enjoyed being absorbed in my favorite hymns. Highly recommended. I would consider the book as early advanced.
