Mit den Petrarca-Vertonungen setze ich meine Beschäftigung mit klassischer italienischer Literatur fort, nachdem ich 2011 bereits Michelangelo und 2013 Ariost vertont habe. Der Gestus und die Harmonik des Stückes sind ganz aus dem Text heraus entwickelt und aus den Empfindungen, die dort ausgedrückt werden. Petrarcas Lyrik ist eine immer wieder aufs Neue ansetzende Erkundung von Schönheit und Schmerz: Schönheit, die im Schmerz liegt, und Schmerz, der von Schönheit verursacht wird. Anno Schreier.
