Homage March. Composed by Richard Wagner. Arranged by Roger Niese. Baton Music Orchestral Series. Full Score and set of parts. Baton Music #BM1042-SET. Published by Baton Music (BF.BM1042-SET).
....Now I have a young King who really loves me ecstatically; you cannot conceive what that means. I remember a dream which I had in my youth: I dreamed that Shakespeare was living, and that I saw him and spoke to him, actually in person. Somewhat similar must be the feelings of this charming young man in having me..... This is what Wagner wrote in a letter to Eliza Wille, a German novelist, about King Ludwig II who was a great admirer of the composer. Thus in the summer of 1864 Wagner spent his time at Lake Starnberg. Here he composed his jubilant 'Huldigungs Marsch', as an expression of homage an gratitude to his royal benefactor. This 'Huldigungs-Marsch' bears Wagner's typical signature. In his own words something "from 'Lohengrin' and 'Tannhäuser' and perhaps something new". Dutch arranger Roger Niese transcribed this march for a modern Symphonic Band.
