AVERELL IS RIGHT!
I agree totally with Averell on this one. In fact you can here me play a Solo (on my own Composition) 'Richie Cole comes to tea - Bebop Jazz Alto Sax Solo' on You tube which is a direct challange to what Baker says in his book. In fact Charlie Parker himself goes against what Baker says (so does Richie Cole). Compare My Solo to any of the written ones in his book. Book one goes into all these Rules that would take forever to decipher. There is not a single line on Birds Rhythmic playing nor anything on the fact that Bebop scales are based on upper harmonics of chords. Book 2 is simply the bebop Bible (thats been around for ages) under a new name. I've given him 2 stars because he does go into the bop tunes based on standards etc which is usefull reference. Overall a big disappointment and you would learn more from listening to and transcribing the great players - alhough Im going to check out the book recomended by Averell.
