Heart warming
I was fortunate enough to be put in touch with this magnificent composer and his works this past year through a mutual friend. When the Caramoor Festival asked me to program and perform a holiday concert, I wanted to bring in some fresh repertoire and Orem delivered big time. I put together a set of his songs that included How Far Is It to Bethlehem?, Holy Innocents and Gabriel's Message to close. How Far Is It to Bethlehem? is yet another example of Orem's gift for setting of text, bringing interesting variation to rhythm and a lush melody that immediately pleases the ear. This piece has a waltz like quality that cradles the audience. Performers and audiences will adore this piece, we sure did.
