Early Guitar Music
I bought this specifically for Guardame las vacas. It has all 7 variations. The person that taught me had given me a photocopy of this music with the 4 variations. I had lost my copy, and I wanted the original, and the other 3 variations. There is other music in this volume besides Guardame that are wonderful, and worth learning. The only thing closer to the original music is the actual tablature. Pujol did a very good job making the music of this period playable on the guitar.One could be a purist and talk about knowing and playing this repertoire for the classical guitar. You will be expected to know and play some or all of these tunes if you are attending a school. I say learn them because they are wonderful to listen to.

Pujol's transcription of vihuela
A wonderful collection ... every guitarist should have it under his fingers, given Pujol's early 20th century efforts to rescue this repetoire from oblivion. I've just put on some Aquila Gut & Silk strings on my 1929 Simplicio replica (by Daryl Perry), and they have a delicate, unearthly beauty. Check out the 1950's recording of the Pisador pieces by US jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd ... he plays on a Hauser that Segovia gave him; quirky but/and full of enthusiasm.
