Hindemith-Jahrbuch Annales Hindemith 2000/29 Annales Hindemith 2000 by Paul Hindemith Collection / Songbook - Sheet Music

By Paul Hindemith

The Hindemith Yearbook 2000/XXIX focuses mainly on Hindemith's work as a writer and musical theorist. Inga May Groote made a close study of the collection of materials assembled by Hindemith for his teaching at Yale from 1940 onwards and later published in excerpts. 'Introductions and Prefaces by Paul Hindemith' present all his known writings both on his own works and those of others in one volume. Included are early remarks on his 'Sing- und Spielmusik', an introduction to the opera Mathis der Maler (1938), the seminal preface to the revised version of the song cycle 'Das Marienleben' (1948) as well as notes on performance practice for the choral works by Giovanni Gabrieli. These historical documents are supplemented with essays on 'Das Marienleben' by Georges Starobinski and on the opera 'Cardillac' by Norbert Abels.
