HIGH SCHOOL DIXIE– John Philip Sousa; arr. Pi Scheffer'The High School Cadets', een populair drill team (exercitiepeloton voor parades en demonstraties) verbonden aan de enige middelbare school in Washington D.C. vroeg in 1890 aan John Philip Sousa om een mars voor de groep te schrijven. Zij vroegen om en betere mars dan deze die hij voor hun concurrenten 'The National Fencibles' geschreven had. Het werd één van de beroemdste van Sousa's 136 marsen. Pi Scheffer maakte dit leuke arrangement met dixieland combo, dat o.m. door opnames met de Dutch Swing College Band, ook enorm succes kende.

In 1890 'The High School Cadets', a popular drill team attached to the very first high school in Washington D.C., asked John Philip Sousa to write a march for the group. They requested a ‘better' march than the one Sousa had written for their rivals 'The National Fencibles'. Indeed, The High School Cadets became one of the most popular of Sousa's 136 marches. Pi Scheffer wrote this fine arrangement with Dixieland combo, which was made extremely popular by the recording made by the famous Dutch Swing College Band.

Der Marsch wurde einer der Bekanntesten von Sousa 136 Märschen. Pi Scheffer schuf dieses reizende Arrangement mit Dixieland Combo, das durch die Einspielung auf Schallplatte von der berühmten Dutch Swing College Band sehr populär wurde.
