Higashi-Nishi was composed in 1984 for the Tokyo Bari-Tuba Ensemble, a first-rate ensemble whose reputation was first made during the 1983 International Tuba and Euphonium Conference at Maryland University, USA.
Higashi-Nishi means “East-West in Japanese, and was written in the spirit rapprochement between the low brass players of the two worlds.
