Process
- Teach Introduction conga pattern; speech and text “Rockin’ and rollin’, we’re rockin’ and a rollin’ now. Rockin’ and rollin’, we’re rockin’ and a rollin’ now.”
- Add A section conga pattern; movement and speech and text: stomp clap on “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7”
- Continue to build A section conga pattern with speech and movement (both patterns repeat) until they can do the whole Intro and A section without teacher
- Teach the B section conga pattern with body percussion; snap, clap,chest, pat, stomp “HIT the CON-GA now” 5x (high to low). That pattern repeats.
- Entire conga part with speech, body percussion, and movement until good
- Teacher plays recorder part over top students performing the conga pattern
- There should be a moment where their eyes light up in recognizing the melody.
- Show the Target commercial that inspired this.
- The main recorder part is for the teacher or advanced 4th/5th grade students can learn by ear
- Other students can play the harmony recorder 2 part
- Add in the glockenspiel fill
- Perform!
