By Eric O'Reilly. Composed by Eric O'Reilly. This edition: pdf, streaming. 21st Century, Classical, Contest, Festival, Multicultural, New Age, World. Score and Parts. 97 pages. Eric O'Reilly #854458. Published by Eric O'Reilly (A0.1261392).“Hectic,” composed and performed by Eric O’Reilly, is an intense, high‑energy work for advanced concert bands. Written for full ensemble with an expanded percussion section, this piece challenges musicians with driving rhythms, bold textures, and a distinctive tonal palette.
The composition is keyless, built primarily on the C double harmonic scale (1, b2, 3, 4, 5, b6, 7, 1)—often referred to as the Egyptian scale. This unique tonal center gives the piece a dark, dramatic, and exotic sound, making it a standout selection for festivals, competitions, and high‑level performances.
Although designed for a large ensemble, “Hectic” includes cue notes throughout the score, allowing it to be performed effectively by smaller concert bands without losing musical integrity.
