This song was written for the 1943 MGM Musical "Meet Me in St. Louis." Judy Garland sang it in the movie, but those original lyrics are a bit different than the current Christmas version we know and love. It was in 1957 that Frank Sinatra requested a revision/modification of the lyrics to reflect happier times and a more positive theme for his upcoming album. It's now a classic - and contemporary artists to this day still record this holiday song.
