"Hashkivenu" Variations for string quartet was written in 1982. Hashkivenu is a segment of the Ma'ariv (or Arvit,) the Jewish Evening Prayer. The theme is based on a "Hashkivenu" melody, which I heard while studying at the Geneva Music Conservatory in Switzerland.
