The title for this piece is a bit of a joke. A nigun is a simple, wordless melody, often used to create a spiritual atmosphere at the start of a Jewish worship service. Traditionally, ten adults are considered the mininum sized congregation (or minyon) for the recitation of the full liturgy. This piece consists of the overlaying five nigun-like tunes. Hence the title: Half-minyon Nigunim. A pronunciation guide is provided for the Yiddish nonsense syllables that make up the text of the piece.
