Thorough method
Not the fastest method but a very complete one. Teaches notes one string , one fret at a time much like other methods. But... no tab. Bad if you want tab. But I like it because I have learned to read music.

Hal Leonard Bass Method Book 1
This is really a very good bass method for beginners. The book brings a lot of sheet music and you can practice playing along with the CD that comes with the book.
