I have based this arrangement on Gounod’s original composition which was for solo violin,piano and organ. The words for ’Ave Maria" were added later. I have attempted to avoid the semiquaver accompanimnent of Bach’s prelude being given to one player: i have spread it between the bassoon horn clarinet and flute.
The tune is mainly on oboe but other instruments take the melody on occaison. There are 2 verses.
