En Novembre 2025, j'ai eu le plaisir de diner à Tokyo avec Norio Sato - chef d'orchestre et guitariste - et d'échanger autour de Toru Takemitsu dont il était un des plus proches collaborateurs.
À la suite de ce repas, Norio m'a fait découvrir un petit quartier - le "Golden gai" - qui n'a pas changé depuis les années 1970 et dans lequel on trouve des passages étroits avec des bars aux ambiances extrêmement différentes. Il a voulu me faire découvrir ce lieu car il y avait passé du temps, dans sa jeunesse, avec son ami Toru Takemitsu.
L'idée m'est donc venue de faire une Suite composée de plusieurs miniatures décrivant l'atmosphère imaginée et unique de cet endroit à cette époque.
La pièce est dédiée à Norio Sato.
In November 2025, I had the pleasure of having dinner in Tokyo with Norio Sato — conductor and guitarist — and of discussing Toru Takemitsu, with whom he had been one of the closest collaborators.
After this meal, Norio introduced me to a small neighborhood — "Golden Gai" — which has not changed since the 1970s and is filled with narrow passageways and bars, each with a very different atmosphere. He wanted me to discover this place because he had spent time there in his youth with his friend Toru Takemitsu.
This gave me the idea of creating a Suite made up of several miniatures describing the imagined and unique atmosphere of this place at that time.
The piece is dedicated to Norio Sato.
