The directors of Sony Pictures Animation's KPop Demon Hunters needed a song that could, within the film's narrative, literally conjure a magical barrier against demonic forces — powered by fan love. No pressure. The team assembled K-pop hitmakers Teddy Park and IDO of THEBLACKLABEL, Theater Camp songwriter Mark Sonnenblick, and Korean-American songwriter/vocalist EJAE to deliver the impossible. They did. The song swept the 2026 awards season — Grammy, Golden Globe, and Academy Award for Best Original Song — and topped the charts in more than 30 countries. David Maddux's TTBB arrangement opens with an extended thirty-second introduction — piano black-key glissandi evoking a koto, synthesized shakuhachi floating above — before the ensemble ignites in an uptempo hip-hop-inflected bop that gives choirs the rare opportunity to sing a song that has already conquered the planet.
