God is Gone Up
Finzi's anthem depicts the singing of angels in response to Jesus' resurrection. A great anthem for Easter Sunday, the piece is ~5 in duration and features several organ interludes with opportunity for varied registrations. The piece requires robust choral singing in up to 8 parts in a few moments. The choral parts are often but not always doubled by the organ, and the harmonic language is late-Victorian and highly chromatic (yet still tonal) in several places. A great piece for a medium to large accomplished choir.
