"God Bless the U.S.A.," also known as "Proud to Be an American," is a patriotic song written and performed by American country singer Lee Greenwood. Widely regarded as his signature song, it was released by MCA Nashville on May 21, 1984, as part of Greenwood's third album, *You've Got a Good Love Comin'*. The song debuted at number seven on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. In the summer of 1984, "God Bless the U.S.A." was featured in a film about President Ronald Reagan, which was shown at the 1984 Republican National Convention, where Reagan was the presidential nominee. The song gained further attention during the 1988 U.S. presidential election when Greenwood performed it at the Republican National Convention and at campaign events for Republican nominee George H.W.
