The words are based on Biblical accounts of the shepherds as they are entranced by the news of Christ's birth, brought to them by the heavenly host (Luke 2:13). The verses are in unison and there is a descant part in the choruses. The anthem can be performed with piano accompaniment, and there is also an optional separate trumpet part which adds a "glorious" sheen and helps to set the atmosphere. Alternatively, a backing track (available separately) can accompany the voices without the need for additional instruments.
