Italian-American organist Pietro Yon (1886-1943) penned this famous melody in 1917, using Italian lyrics. American lyricist Frederick Martens (1874-1932) later set his poem, When Blossoms Flowered ‘mid the Snows to the melody. The Chorus uses Adeste Fideles. The first known performance of it was in 1924 with Yon accompanying his church choir on organ.
