Composed by Germaine Tailleferre. This edition: pdf. 20th Century, Big Band, Film/TV, Jazz, Ragtime. 42 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #1218380. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.1651736).

In 1938, Tailleferre wrote a number of film scores, including her music for « Le Petit Chose », which featured a young actress named Arletty. This present work, which is Tailleferre’s only work which is scored for « orchestre de Brasserie » or « Café » orchestra, was part of a documentary (either film or on radio, as the master has not been located) by a certain M. Courmes. The short work featured a number of typical Parisian Vignettes in a light, popular style. The work also features the accordian, the only work by Tailleferre to feature this instrument and ends with a lively Java. There was an initial piano sketch (published by Musik Fabrik several years ago) which was incomplete and differs in signficant ways from this final version. This version is sourced from the incomplete score and complete parts in Tailleferre’s personal archives, now in the Les Six Archives of Robert Shapiro. There was originally a piano solo movement between the first and second movements, entitled « Musique de Scène » and probably improvised by Tailleferre herself at the recording session. As there was no trace of this movement in either the score or the parts, this movement has been omited in this edition.
