Most of the double bass part can be played in first position with a few notes played higher on the G-string. The arrangement allows the musician to perform a wide range of dynamics (piano-forte) and sustained notes. The 12/8 time signature gives this familiar melody a gospel feel. It is an excellent arrangement for competitions and concert performances.
The piano accompaniment contains spicy jazz harmonies with a variety of chord voicings and progressions. I’ve included the chord symbols and lyrics in this arrangement. It can be performed with a solo guitar accompaniment or small ensemble. The lyrics will help the bassist capture the emotion and phrasing of the lyrics.
