“Gavotte” by Padre Martini (Giovanni Battista Martini) is the first piece in Suzuki Violin Book 3. This elegant 18th century piece is a rondo, meaning that the same theme recurs throughout the piece. It requires focus on bowing, phrasing, and rhythm, and also has some tonal challenges. I have written a fun canon-like second part for the teacher or fellow student that will make this a highlight of any concert. It comes with both a score and separate notes for each part.
