The playful title of this work relates to the much-used glissando playing manner and of course to the important role that the trombones play within a band. Apart from the obligatory glissandi Funny Slides contains much staccato playing together with fine melodic sections. For the musicians as well as the audience, Funny Slides is an attractive and entertaining composition.
De speelse titel van dit werk heeft betrekking op de volop aanwezige glissando-speelwijze én natuurlijk op de hoofdrol die het trombonetrio speelt. Het eerste thema - in een driestemmige zetting - is hoofdzakelijk opgebouwd uit staccatospelen uiteraard de nodige glissandi. Na een sprankelende tussenzin volgt een herhaling van dit thema in de discant. Tijdens de slotreprise etaleert de trombonesectie een nieuw, zangrijk thema. De vivace tempoaanduiding garandeerteen virtuoos totaalbeeld. Voor zowel musici als publiek is Funny Slides een aantrekkelijke compositie.
Der wortspielerische Titel Funny Slides (Lustige Züge) verweist auf die häufig verwendete Spielweise Glissando und auch auf die wichtige Stellung des Posaunentrios hin. Neben den natürlich obligatorischen Glissandi besticht Funny Slides mit Staccatospiel, glanzvollen und kantablen Passagen. Die Tempobezeichnung Vivace garantiert ein virtuoses Gesamtbild dieser attraktiven Komposition für Musiker und Publikum.
Écrit trois voix, le premier thème conjugue essentiellement le jeu en staccato et les incontournables glissandi. Après un passage pétillant, ce thème est repris sous la forme d’un contre-chant. Au cours de la reprise finale, les trombones exposent un thème cantabile. L’indication de tempo, vivace, garantit un canevas général virtuose. Funny Slides (“Coulisses espiègles”) est une composition plaisante pour les musiciens et les auditeurs.
