‘Funky Heels’, as the name suggests, has rhythms and harmonies that give a feeling of the groovy 70’s. To maintain the funky beat, often marcato bowing near to the heel should be adopted – this is the 2nd reason for the title!
Although this piece can be performed (and certainly rehearsed) without drums it is preferable, both for players and performers, to have a drum kit for the concert. The part supplied is only a guide and an experienced drummer should make the part their own to support the structure of the piece in a natural and funky style.
