Schreiers Tonsprache zeichnet sich in den Liederzyklen durch eine besonders cantable Ausgestaltung der Gesangsstimme aus und schafft somit, die Gattung Lied behutsam zu modernisieren, ohne dabei den typisch romantischen Duktus zu verwerfen.
