Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Stephen Loikith. This edition: pdf. Baroque, Classical, Historic. 34 pages. Stephen Loikith #1325610. Published by Stephen Loikith (A0.1765237).

The Prelude and Fugue in D-Major, BWV 532 was originally a part of a collection of pieces Bach composed during his time at the German town of Anhalt-Cöthen, at which he wrote many of his organ compositions. This lively piece is an example of the exceptional skills Johann Sebastian possessed, with both hands (and feet) being expected to play some very demanding music. This arrangement showcases this, with regular dialogue between hands and feet. The cello part also gets the rare treat of a solo at the end of the piece, which originally would have been played on the pedals. While the tempo marking says “Vivace”, it is recommended that the performers take this piece slow, to make sure all the parts are in sync before speeding up. Once at “vivace”, then the players can truly appreciate the intricacies of this wonderful piece.
