♫ Meditating on Psalm 9 while I was in Haiti I, noticed the contrast between the gates of death and the gates of Zion in Psalm 9. The significance of city gates in ancient Jerusalem was not merely the physical security and safety they provided, but were the place that the city elders met for legal proceedings. The elders of a city constituted sort of a city council / courtroom and court.
♫ Although we don’t know the exact setting for this Psalm, it seems that David’s life had been threatened, and he was looking forward to returning to his capital city where he would publicly declare how God had protected him.
