Frevo by Egberto Gismonti Jazz Ensemble - Digital Sheet Music

By Egberto Gismonti

If you've somehow found your way to this chart, I probably don't need to tell you that Brazilian jazz fusion is not a genre that you're likely to encounter on the average gig. As a result, there aren't many accurate charts floating around for these kinds of tunes.I performed this particular number, "Frevo" by guitar/piano virtuoso Egberto Gismonti, on a recital some years ago and transcribed this chart myself after struggling to find anything that was even close to accurate on the internet. This particular transcription comes from Gismonti's 1981 Sanfona album, and includes the melody and accompaniment to the A & B sections of what we northerners might call "the head." I did not bother to transcribe the long D minor vamp that takes place in the middle of the recording, but I encourage any ensemble (as I did in the attached YouTube video) to treat this kind of like a Real Book chart and jam it out/throw solos around as desired. This arrangement includes charts for Bass, Piano, and a Lead Sheet with the main melody, which was originally performed on flute, but can also be read on violin, guitar, trumpet, or most reed instruments without too much adjustment. Heck, if you wanna try this thing on Xylophone, go for it and please send me a video because that would be SICK!In spite of its relative obscurity, this is a really fun & flashy tune that would fit really well into your next jazz, fusion, or Latin set. Please enjoy! And if you have any questions: feel free to hit me up on my website, www.kylepudenz.com/  or on Instagram @theviolinvagabond
