The piece is scored for full big band but is playable with 5 saxes, 3 trumpets , 3 trombones and rhythm. Optional parts for flute, clarinet and Horn in F are included. One of the unique things about this tune is the form, which is AABAB-- definitely a talking point you will want to have with your young ensemble. Trumpet 1 (in harmon mute)and Tenor Sax carry the melody through the first part of the arrangement, then Tenor 1 takes a solo (solo can be improvised though a written solo is provided). Piano takes over for a brief Basie-style solo (also written out), and trumpet 1 and tenor finish out the tune. Top note for Trumpet 1 is a written F, for trombone 1 is a D (above middle C). This is a perfect song for the middle of your festival set-- light, bouncy, lots of dynamics, and not overly difficult.
