In 2021 Marco Ramelli asked me to write a piece for him. He had recently come across a
peculiar document, displaying a few germinal ideas and a general plan for a violin and
piano sonata by Miguel Llobet. Not only the composer did not finish the piece, he actually
did not go beyond drafting a few, very beautiful, motifs and themes.
My piece is based on this draft, and used some of the fragments contained in it as the basic
material for the composition. The sparseness of the available ideas and the intricate chro-
matic nature of Llobet’s writing led me to compose a piece that is reflective and mysteri-
ous, which develops as a meditation on the potentiality of the original motifs, rather than
a proper elaboration of them.
In order to create a stronger link to Llobet’s sound world, yet searching for a contemporary
idiom, Frammenti was conceived to be first performed on a Torres model guitar built by Gabriele Lodi, with a tornavoz. It was premiered by Marco on this guitar at Centro Asteria in Milano, Italy in February 2022, during one of the first meetings of the Errante Guitar Course.

En 2021, Marco Ramelli m'a demandé d'écrire une pièce pour lui. Il venait de découvrir un document particulier, présentant quelques idées germinales et un plan général pour une sonate pour violon et piano de Miguel Llobet. Non seulement le compositeur n'avait pas terminé la pièce, mais il n'était pas allé au-delà de l'ébauche de quelques motifs et thèmes très beaux.
Ma pièce est basée sur cette ébauche et utilise certains des fragments qu'elle contient comme matériau de base pour la composition. La rareté des idées disponibles et la nature chromatique complexe de l'écriture de Llobet m'ont conduit à composer une pièce réfléchie et mystérieuse, qui se développe comme une méditation sur le potentiel des motifs originaux, plutôt qu'une véritable élaboration de ceux-ci.
Afin de créer un lien plus fort avec le monde sonore de Llobet, tout en cherchant un langage contemporain, Frammenti a été conçu pour être joué en première sur une guitare modèle Torres construite par Gabriele Lodi, avec un tornavoz. Marco l'a créée sur cette guitare au Centro Asteria de Milan, en Italie, en février 2022, lors de l'une des premières rencontres du cours Errante Guitar.
