This traditional Irish folk song, with lyrics byPatrick Joseph McCall (1861 - 1919), is set to an early 16th Century marching tune. It celebrates the defeat of an army of 3,000
English soldiers, by Fiach MacHugh O'Byrne at the Battle of Glenmalure, during the Second Desmond Rebellion on August 25th, 1580.
The arrangement is for a folksy ensemble of voice, harp, uilleann pipes, fiddle, bass, and accordion.
