Leah Hing (1907-2001) was the first Chinese American woman to earn her pilot's license. Hing managed the Chinese Te Garden restaurant, where her father was a stockholder. While working there, she met Tex Rankin, who recruited her for his flying school. During World War II, Hing worked at the Portland Air Base checking and repairing flight instruements. She also enlisted in the West Coast Civil Air Patrol to fly reconnaisance missions.
